Arts in business - Kunst som læring

For too long we have let language be the main tool for learning despite the fact that there are many flaws to language as a communication tool. First of all it's problematic because people add different meanings to words depending on history, social influence, culture and personality. Second, it's shown that we all adapt knowledge in multiple ways, not only linguistic (eg. Gardener). It' long overdue that we look to the arts, not only as a tool for creating good experiences, but also as a tool for effective learning and communication.

This blog is dedicated to share knowledge about how we can use our creative skills to create a richer environment for knowledge sharing and learning in organizations, the schools and society.

Hay Plopp Chair - Fun Design

I love this chair! Not only is it genius in ways of making, solid quality, colorful and beautiful. It also plays a very nice visual trick on you when you look at someone sitting on it, if you're not aware of the amazing weight this tiny chair can hold!

Take a look!

Diversity Icebreaker - Effective and Fun Tool for Communication and Teambuilding

Are you red, blue or green?

No I,m not talking about yoour political preferences. I'm talking about how you prefer to communicate.

In team processes it's common to use tools as Belbin or MBTI to map and understand diversity. These tools are often complicated and expensive to use. And quite often they contribute to stereotype and increase the differences between the members of the group.

Diversity Icebreaker is a different kind of tool which uses colors as labels. The use of colors contributes to open up communication between team members, allowing them to give the different types their own meaning, leading to, not only kowledge about others, but even more important; self-knowledge and insight.

It's also very easy to use and easy to understand and it doesn't require any form of certification, although you ought to have some insight into psychological processses before ou start analyzing others with this tool.

If you are interested in knowing more about this tool, check out these dates:

Arts, redesign and cabin business

Went to Stokkøya in late October 2009 for the first time in unbelievable sunshine. The founders have used young creatives from Norway and Sweden and have let them played with basically local trash to make this a real redesign oasis. They have ended up with a beautiful site. Creative arts have definately made this place good business! A wonderful vision from a couple of wonderful people! Worth the visit. http://www.stokkoya.no.
